What To Do When Your Baby Is Congested?

!±8± What To Do When Your Baby Is Congested?

Although nasal congestion is just an annoyance for most older children and adults, it can be serious in infants. Babies who are congested in the first months of life have trouble nursing and can experience breathing problems. If your child is younger than 3 months, call your doctor at the first sign of illness.

Here are a few methods:

1. Just turn on the shower to hot and let the steam build up and sit in the bathroom for ten minutes if you need you could stay longer. It works just like a humidifier just like times ten it helps loosen the mucus to where your baby can breathe easier.

2. Use saline drops in the nose. Most of the saline nose sprays are safe for any age. Just make sure to read on the label.

3. Humidifier, I can stress enough it is healthy for everyone in the house it cleanses the air you breath. The dust in the air could allergic reaction with the baby and try to wash as much fabric in you house as possible to remove dust, dander, and etc (bedding, throw blankets, stuffed animals, curtains, etc)

4. Herbs eucalyptus and lemon scents help decongest the baby you can buy it to put in a warm bath it helps relax the baby and calms their nerves.

5. Get some baby Vicks rub. Put it on the bottom of the baby's feet and on its back and chest. Be sure to put socks and warm clothes on. The Vicks will open up the baby's pores so be sure to wash it off before going outside.

Vertigo and the Effects of the Epley Maneuver

!±8± Vertigo and the Effects of the Epley Maneuver

Vertigo is often mistaken with a fear of heights, dizziness or a brief moment of instability. Now, vertigo has been re-classified so that many who have experienced any such "dizziness" are now aware that there is much more than was thought to be there in the first place. It was pioneered by Chiropractic.

The tricky part, as in my case is that vertigo can be layered in with other ailments and therefore hard to correctly detect or believe. I have found with the "traditional medicine" practices that if it does not fit into the hole then it just does not exist, especially when you live in a country where the health system pays by the visit. Therefore, if you have something more complex than what fits the profile, then you have to keep coming back, and that is why I went to non-traditional medicine, like Chiropractic.

I went to Chiropractic because of my research on the net. It said that some types of imbalance that cause vertigo can be caused, especially in males over fifty by small crystals of calcium carbonate that form in the inner ear. In many cases, these tiny crystals floating around in the inner ear, and then hitting the very small hairs causing enormous imbalance cause this kind of vertigo. This is often accompanied by extreme nausea.

The more research I did, I discovered a treatment called the Epley Maneuver. The Epley Maneuver is designed to let those crystals settle in any one of the three smaller openings of the inner ear so that they do not come out and cause havoc anymore.

The Epley Maneuver is something else when performed. For someone who has vertigo, it makes the scariest ride at an amusement park look like a luxury car. First, they tip you right back, and not just flat, I mean right back until your head is looking at everything almost upside down. Then they turn your head to the right and they wait until everything stops spinning. They do the same thing to the left, until the same thing happens, and lastly, they put your head straight up.

There is no set time for this, everyone is different, and you feel drained, happy, light-headed all at once, and it's best to take some time before you try and walk normally again. One of the reasons for this feeling is the deep tissue massage they give you to loosen everything up, and the after effect is amazing, like a sense of euphoria that lasts and lasts.

Chiropractic's Epley Maneuver works differently with everyone, and there is no set time for recovery, for some people it works right away, for some it needs several treatments, for another kind, it needs ongoing treatment. There is a chance however, it may not work.

What Pregnant Women Should and Shouldn't Do

!±8± What Pregnant Women Should and Shouldn't Do

Expecting mothers have rules and regulations to follow for a safe and smooth pregnancy. These rules are not just for the mother's health and safety but for the unborn child as well. The fetus is very vulnerable and cannot look after itself that's why it is the mother's role to look after its health and security. The following are what must and must not be done during pregnancy:

Regular Medical Check-up

Regular check-ups should be observed to properly keep track of the fetus' growth and to identify possible risks and complications.

Determine the Possibility of getting German Measles

Detection of the pathogen, German measles, is very important because the disease can dangerously affect the baby by means of miscarriage or deformities.

Taking prenatal vitamins and proteins

Properly taking vitamins during pregnancy can cut the risk of having diabetes. For protein, the RDA is 75 grams for pregnant women. But then, dietitians also recommend 100 grams.

Exercise and Consumption of Fats and Fibers

In normal daily life, fats and cholesterol are avoided. However, with pregnant women, the situation is not the same. Fats and cholesterol should be included in the diet. There should also be exercise to control weight. Some exercises are designed for pregnant women to help them control their weight and develop muscle strength to be able to tolerate the pain of labor.

Drinking Alcohol and Smoking should be Avoided

Alcohol threatens the fetus with the possibility of causing deformities. In severe cases of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or FAS, the baby may become mentally retarded. Smoking cigarette can also affect the baby by increasing the risk of abortion, infant death and underweight baby.

Illegal Drugs should not be Taken

Taking drugs during pregnancy should be under the advice of the doctor. Taking medicines like aspirin can affect the fetus by causing eye defects and heart murmurs.

Eating Hot Dogs and Caffeine should be Avoided

Consuming hot dogs and caffeine can place the pregnant mother and fetus under a high risk of cancer.

Contact with Ticks and Reptiles should be Avoided

Ticks should be avoided because their bites can lead to an illness called lyme disease. Moreover, reptiles possess a pathogen, salmonella. It is a virus that can affect the early days of pregnancy.

Vitamin A Supplements should be Avoided

Taking vitamin A supplements to add in the diet will increase the possibility of a child to develop physical deformities.

Cold Relief - Which is Better, a Humidifier or a Vaporizer?

!±8± Cold Relief - Which is Better, a Humidifier or a Vaporizer?

If you live on a temperate country chances are you will have experience low humidity. It can make breathing just a tiny bit laborious. If you suffer colds and other upper respiratory ailments low humidity can certainly make it worse.

Humidifiers and vaporizers both address the issue on the double whammy of low humidity and colds. Read on to find out if one is really better than the other.

A quick recap on what humidifiers are is a good way to start this argument. Humidifiers are devices which introduce humidity to an environment (preferably one that needs more humidity) by releasing water vapors into the air.

Humidity, after all is the measurement of the amount of water in the air. It usually does this by spraying water into a fine mist with a system that may involve impellers, ultrasonic waves and many more.

When previously very dry (low humidity) air is treated by a humidifier it makes it easier to breathe. This moisturizing effect in the air is what makes humidifiers effective.

One complaint about humidifiers is that it is very difficult to control the amount of humidity they introduce. Too much humidity in a room can ruin the rooms paint, wood and even make it harder to breathe. Humidifiers also are a magnet for fungus and molds.

A Vaporizer effectively does the same action that the humidifier does but does it with heat. While the humidifier releases cool mist vapors a typical vaporizer releases hot vapors.

Vaporizers are better than humidifiers in two ways. First is that the nasty moisture that a typical humidifier overproduces is eliminated. Vaporizers have much less chance of spreading molds.

Another thing they remove is germs. By boiling water a great majority of bacteria dies and never gets released to the area around the vaporizer. A humidifier can spread bacteria that have grown on it its medium into different parts of the room.

The bad thing about traditional vaporizers is that they tend to be scalding hot. This makes them dangerous to kids, pets and adults who do not know the location of a hot vaporizer.

For cold relief and other upper respiratory ailments both humidifiers and vaporizers work. It's a matter of preference which one you get. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages that you may have to get around with.

Over the Counter Cold Medications and Breastfeeding

!±8± Over the Counter Cold Medications and Breastfeeding

It can be extremely frustrating when you're breastfeeding and you have a cold! Not only do you feel extremely lousy but you can't just take any old over the counter medications to relieve your discomfort. This is because not every cold medication is safe to take while breastfeeding. In this article, we'll discuss how to choose over the counter cold medications that are safe while breastfeeding.

First of all, you should ask yourself if a non medical approach is possible. While nursing, it is typically suggested that you try the non medical approach first as these tend to be safer for baby. Some proven natural methods that may help are:

o Take a Nap.

o Take Vitamin C or Drink Plenty of Orange Juice.

o Take a Warm Bath with Vicks Vapor Rub In It.

o Use a Humidifier.

o Rest and Relax.

Second, you should do a bit of research about the medication you wish to take. This can be done by asking your physician, a pharmacy technician, or some other medical professional. Another option is to conduct some internet research. Keep in mind however that many over the counter cold medications are excreted through breast milk so that when you take a dose, so does your baby. In addition, some cold medications have also been shown to limit or impede a mother's ability to make milk. A good rule of thumb is that if a medication was safe during pregnancy then it is likely to be safe while nursing. However, always ask a professional to be extra careful.

Third, know the facts and be wise in your decision. Although natural remedies tend to be best, here are some common cold medications that are often recommended while you're breastfeeding. Tylenol Cold and Sudafed are considered safe for breastfeeding mothers, along with Beconase or Flonase nasal spray. For allergies, non sedating Sudafed and Benadryl are also considered safe for use during breast feeding, although some studies show that Benadryl can actually decrease your milk supply. Allegra is fine as well, however you should avoid long term use. One thing you should also avoid is the extended capsules or formulas. These are the ones that are meant to last all day long. They are more likely to get into the breast milk and be passed to baby, as well as stay in his or her system for a longer period of time.

Instead of risking this, simply take the regular acting medications and avoid the 9 or 12 hour kind. If you find that your cold or condition is not getting better and you are continuing to take the medication in order to find relief, you should visit your physician. Continuing to take the medication will only increase the risks to your baby, and medicines should not be taken for more than a few days with no improvement in condition.

In conclusion, breastfeeding is a wonderful thing and you shouldn't let something like a cold slow you down when it comes to giving your baby the best possible start. By utilizing the tips and ideas mentioned above, you can make the best choice for you and your nursing baby.
